About Us

Angry Bull Trails is a bold adventure tourism and social enterprise project based in Tenterfield, NSW.

We are developing over 150 kilometres of world-class mountain biking trails - all within close proximity to town - along with a vibrant Trail Centre and community hub. Positioned to become one of Australia’s leading year-round riding destinations, the project is designed to attract visitors from across the country while creating training, employment and long-term opportunities for local young people.

Set amongst the rugged granite landscape of the New England High Country in northern NSW, this project is about more than trails - it’s about building opportunity, strengthening regional communities, and creating unforgettable outdoor experiences.

Tenterfield already has the foundations of a trail town, with established accommodation, food and beverage and retail offerings that support a growing visitor market. Designed to offer a diverse range of riding experiences, Angry Bull Trails will provide a destination where visitors can stay, explore and ride over multiple days.

Angry Bull Trails is set to become one of Australia’s most significant mountain bike networks, positioning Tenterfield as a must-visit destination for riders across Australia.

  • Angry Bull Trails operates as a purpose-driven social enterprise, bringing together trail development, tourism and community impact under one integrated project. The organisation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, and works collaboratively with advisory partners, land managers, community organisations and industry stakeholders to guide strategic direction and ensure strong governance. This structure allows Angry Bull Trails to deliver world-class trails while also creating training, employment and economic opportunities that benefit the Tenterfield community.

As the project grows, we continue to strengthen our governance and advisory networks to ensure the right mix of experience, skills and local knowledge supports delivery.

The Story Behind Angry Bull Trails

Angry Bull Trails began with a simple idea: that adventure tourism could be a powerful catalyst for regional renewal.

Surrounded by spectacular landscapes, rugged granite country and incredible riding terrain, the region offers ideal conditions for mountain biking and outdoor adventure. Yet like many regional communities, it also faces challenges - including limited local employment opportunities for young people.

Angry Bull Trails was created to bring these two realities together.

By developing an exceptional trail network and a welcoming trail centre, the project aims to attract riders, families and adventure travellers while creating training pathways, employment and long-term economic opportunities for the community.

The project has been shaped through community engagement, with strong local support and ongoing input helping guide its development.

We are working closely with Traditional Owners and relevant organisations to ensure respectful consultation and engagement throughout the development of the project.

This is about more than building trails - it’s about creating opportunity, strengthening community, and giving people a reason to come, stay and belong.

Project Momentum

Angry Bull Trails has secured significant early funding, including:

  • $4.1 million through the NSW Government’s Regional Tourism Activation Fund to support Stage 1 of the project.

  • $8.2 million through the Federal Government’s Growing Region’s Program to support Stage 2 of the project.

This funding provides a strong foundation for delivery and demonstrates confidence in the project’s long-term impact.

These grants provide critical funding for trail development and infrastructure. Additional support will help deliver the broader impact of the project - including training and employment programs, community initiatives, and long-term sustainability.

What We’re Building

The project brings together three core elements:

TRAILS

150+km of diverse mountain biking trails designed to deliver world-class riding experiences while respecting the landscape and heritage of the region.

TRAIL CENTRE

A welcoming hub where riders and visitors can gather, eat, relax and connect — supporting local businesses and enhancing the visitor experience.

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

Training and employment pathways that give young people in the region the opportunity to build skills, confidence and meaningful careers.

This is about building something that lasts - for the people who live here and those who come to experience it.
